Scholarship Foundation

Established in 1998 by the PLCA Board of Directors, the PLCA Scholarship Foundation awards 20  scholarships each year to students for undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited college or university (renewable up to four years). Because of the extraordinary generosity of our PLCA Members, by 2019 the Foundation had awarded over 258 scholarships to well-deserving young men and women throughout the PLCA family. The Foundation will award 20 additional scholarships at $8,000 each in 2020.  Nearly $5,500,000 in scholarship awards have been awarded since the program’s inception.

Students are eligible to receive a scholarship if they are a child, stepchild, or grandchild of a full-time employee (non-bargaining unit) currently employed by a PLCA Regular or Associate Member.  Recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, and work experience, among other factors.  Financial need is not considered.  Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.  Annual scholarships awarded are restricted to one per PLCA Member company.

The Scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America – a third-party administrator that ensures a confidential and objective selection process.

Applications are completed online through the Scholarship America application portal.  The application period typically runs from November to January each year. The PLCA will announce program information each Fall with details about that year’s upcoming application period.  Scholarship winners are announced at the Annual Convention and students will be notified by Scholarship America immediately following the Convention.

Eligibility

The Scholarship Program is open to children, stepchildren or grandchildren (younger than 26) of full-time (non-bargaining unit) employees of Regular or Associate Members of the PLCA as of the application date.

Eligible applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited four-year college or university or graduate school.

Continued affiliation with a member of the PLCA is not required for the continuation of the scholarship.

Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.
