Scholarship Foundation

Established in 1998 by the PLCA Board of Directors, the PLCA Scholarship Foundation, through its Paul Evans Scholarship Program, awards 20 scholarships each year to students for undergraduate or graduate study at an accredited college or university (renewable up to four years). Because of the extraordinary generosity of our PLCA Members, as of 2022, over 315 scholarships have been awarded to well-deserving young men and women throughout the PLCA family. The Scholarship Program will award 20 additional $8,000 scholarships in 2023. Over $7 million in scholarships have been awarded since the program’s inception.

Students are eligible to receive a scholarship if they are a child, stepchild, or grandchild of a full-time employee currently employed by a PLCA Regular or Associate Member.  Recipients are selected on the basis of academic record, demonstrated leadership and participation in school and community activities, honors, and work experience, among other factors.  Financial need is not considered. Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability or national origin.

The Scholarship program is administered by Scholarship America – a third-party administrator that ensures a confidential and objective selection process.

Applications are completed online through the Scholarship America application portal.  The application period typically runs from November to January each year. The PLCA will announce program information each Fall with details about that year’s upcoming application period. Scholarship winners are announced at the Annual Convention and students will be notified by Scholarship America immediately following the Convention.

Eligibility

The Scholarship Program is open to children, stepchildren or grandchildren (25 and younger) of full-time (non-bargaining unit) employees of Regular or Associate Members of the PLCA as of the application date.

Eligible applicants must be high school seniors or graduates who plan to enroll or students who are already enrolled in a full-time undergraduate or graduate course of study for the entire upcoming academic year at an accredited four-year college or university or graduate school.

Online Application

The Scholarship America application portal for the Paul Evans Scholarship Program for the 2024-2025 academic year will open in November 2023.  Details about how to apply will be provided here at that time.

Program Guidelines

Up to twenty (20) $8,000 scholarships will be awarded each year. Awards may be renewed for up to three additional years.  Renewal is contingent upon satisfactory academic performance in a full-time course of study and continuation of the program by the PLCA Scholarship Foundation.

Continued affiliation with a member of the PLCA is not required for the continuation of the scholarship.

Awards are granted without regard to race, color, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender, disability, or national origin.

Donate to the Scholarship Foundation

The PLCA holds two fundraisers each year to raise money for the Scholarship Foundation and its Scholarship Program. The annual commitment to fund these scholarships is $640,000, and the Foundation relies on the generous donations from PLCA member companies and their employees to meet this commitment.  And our members always rise to the occasion!

Summer Scholarship Campaign

Kicking off on Memorial Day every year, and running for 99 days through Labor Day, this campaign is the primary fundraiser for the Paul Evans Scholarship Program. During this #99daysofgiving, the PLCA reaches out to its members, providing information about the program, as well as special video messages from scholarship recipients and their families about how meaningful and important these donations are to these students achieving their dreams. A dedicated webpage provides information about the campaign, tracks the progress to our fundraising goal, recognizes donors, and provides a portal for credit card donations, as well as instructions for how to donate by check and ACH.

Convention Fundraising Event

Every year at the PLCA Annual Convention in February, the PLCA hosts a fun, live fundraising event.  Ranging from silent auctions, to Big Boards, raffles, and a popular "Jail and Bail" event held at our 2020 Convention in Palm Springs, PLCA members bring the fun and their wallets to these events! These events are made successful by both the donations of items to auction or raffle and the generosity of our bidders and participants.
